崇古：青铜器及玉器的复兴
——十二至十八时期

这两场讲座将思考美学价值、象征价值和社会价值是如何被赋予中国古代的玉器与青铜器的。
第一场讲座将经由良渚最新的考古发现来审视玉器在中国古代的重要地位。这些玉器器形最终传播到了其它地区，从而形成了一个泛区域的玉器传统。讲座将以金器在西方的地位作为对照，以此阐释玉器在中国历久弥新的特殊价值。
第二场讲座将围绕青铜器的重要性。宋、明、清三代都有收藏和仿效古代玉器与青铜器的传统。而在欧洲，早期的艺术藏家们则是以“珍奇屋”的形式来收藏和展示他们的藏品。通过对于这两种传统的比较，可以看出东西方在对于收藏的兴趣及士绅阶级的品味上的显著差别。这种比较也折射出中国古代对青铜器和玉器的特殊兴趣。
